Plot Synopsis
Executive produced by Lorne Michaels and Elizabeth Banks and adapted from Lindy West's memoir "Shrill: Notes From a Loud Woman," SHRILL is a comedy series that centers on Annie, a fat young woman who wants to change her life -- but not her body. Annie is trying to start her career while juggling bad boyfriends, a sick parent, and a perfectionist boss. When the morning after pill fails and aspiring journalist Annie winds up pregnant, she weighs the pros and cons of having a child with her hook-up buddy. The decision-making process forces Annie, with help from her best friend Fran, to figure out who she is and what she wants from her life. Annie's writing her first article, going on her first date with Ryan and, finally, asking more from the people in her life than she has before. Things are looking up, until an internet troll appears and tries to drag her self-esteem back down where it started. Series star Aidy Bryant serves as a co-writer of SHRILL, which premiered on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, with Hulu releasing all six episodes of the first season.
The sophomore season of SHRILL premiered on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Hulu released the entire eight-episode second season. After facing her demons -- her mom, her boss and, of course, her troll -- Annie starts the season feeling pretty good with boyfriend Ryan by her side. That is, until she realizes that hastily quitting her job and jumping into a relationship with someone who is, well, a little less career -- focused may not have been the best idea. But Annie isn't the only one on a path to self-discovery...she'll be joined by both Fran and her mother, who are also figuring out what they really want out of life. And while it's not easy to get what she always imagined she'd want, Annie is no longer the doormat she once was -- and she's just getting started.

Season 3 of SHRILL dropped on Friday, May 7, 2021, as Hulu released the entire eight-episode final season. Season 3 finds Annie energized by her breakup with dud boyfriend Ryan and her newfound momentum at work. Annie feels like everything is finally falling into place for her, but does she actually know how to get what she wants? In the season opener, "Ribs," Annie jumps back into the dating world with mixed results, and has a traumatic encounter at the doctor. Fran and Emily take their relationship to the next level.
