Plot Synopsis

Co-created and executive produced by Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen, SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE is a half-hour comedy series that follows Sam, a true Kansan on the surface, but, beneath it all, she's just struggling to fit the mold in Manhattan, Kansas, known as the Little Apple. A while back, Sam returned to her hometown to care for Holly, her cancer-stricken sister and her best friend. When the devastation of Holly's death trickles into her workplace, Sam finds an unexpected connection with her coworker. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam's saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don't fit in but don't give up, showing that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible. Her circle of family and friends includes:

Joel, whose vision-board dreams of faith, family, and high-end kitchen appliances are ripped to pieces in a spiral of joy, shame, music, and stress rashes, after he befriends his high school idol, Sam.

Tricia Miller, Sam's resentful and scrappy sister, who is exhausted from trying to live up to hometown expectations.

Rick, Sam's quietly unremarkable brother-in-law, whose secret sends Sam and Joel's imaginations spinning as fast as the Kansas tornado that reveals the truth.

family patriarch Ed Miller, a stoic Kansas farmer who believes if you just keep your head down and work hard...you'll reap what you sow. He eventually learns that ignoring problems only makes them grow.

Mary Jo, Sam's mother, who is struggling with alcoholism.

Fred Rococo, a University soil scientist by day, Master of Ceremonies in a flashy suit by night, who's been through it all, done the work, and found his stable place of happiness in the land of sunflowers.

Michael, Joel's boyfriend who suddenly is playing second fiddle to Sam.

Charity, co-owner of the store Tender Moments with Sam's sister Tricia.

Season 2 of SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE premiered on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 10:35pm ET/PT on HBO. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam's saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don't fit in but don't give up, showing that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible. Anywhere. Somewhere. The new season is a reminder that families are hard, even the fun ones. Sam and Joel have settled into a comfy routine. But nothing stays the same forever. In the season opener, "NNP," while he rents out his house, Joel and Sam revel in the highs of their temporary living situationship -- and the lows of cleaning up after strangers. Meanwhile, as a newly single Tricia preps for an empty nest, Sam is overcome with unexpected emotion as she begins to clean out the barn.
