Plot Synopsis

Using re-enactments, archival footage, and interviews with investigators, writers, friends and family, this series retells real-life murderous tales from the Bible Belt. Hosted by Shanna Forrestall, SOUTHERN FRIED HOMICIDE explores the juiciest stories from the Carolinas to Louisiana and Tennessee. Each 60-minute episode features one salacious story, including: Susie Newsom, who has an affair with her disturbed first cousin after her marriage began to fail, leaving nine family members dead, spanning from Kentucky to North Carolina; Mary Winkler, who shot her preacher husband in the back of the head while he was sleeping; a young woman, who was set on becoming the next Scarlett O'Hara; a young graduate student, who was murdered in her Baton Rouge home in an apparent string of slayings; and many more cases gone south. SOUTHERN FRIED HOMICIDE returned for its second season on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In the Season 2 premiere, "So Many Women," police track a horrifying trail of bodies in pursuit of a diabolical serial killer as they investigate the murder of a beautiful young co-ed, who was strangled to death in the bathroom of her Charlotte, North Carolina home. Investigation Discovery premiered the third season of SOUTHERN FRIED HOMICIDE on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, showing back-to-back new episodes. In the season opener (9pm), "The Perfect Poisoner," prim and proper Marie Hilley of Anniston, Alabama is left to fend for herself after a mysterious illness overtakes her husband. Despite a life insurance payout, her debts keep piling up as the same illness threatens to kill her daughter as well. Then, in the night's second new episode (10pm), "Smooth Talking Devil," sparks fly in Jackson, MI and Bossier City, LA when a smooth talking cowboy comes to town and women start disappearing. Communities are on edge, as police race to find answers. But how many more have to die before they find this Devil in Disguise?

On Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered the Season 3 finale of SOUTHERN FRIED HOMICIDE. The season ender, "Heart of Darkness," focuses on Columbia, Kentucky, the perfect place to raise a family, which is nestled quietly away form the hustle and bustle of city life. But, for one family, darkness is seeping in threatening to destroy their peaceful lives and answers will be a long time coming.
