Plot Synopsis

Filmed over four years and narrated by housemates Sam, Hilly, Lucy, Lewis and Megan -- one who has Williams syndrome and the others who have Down syndrome -- THE SPECIALS is a Webby Award-winning reality series that shares the ups and downs of their daily lives. These five young adults -- all between the ages of 19-23 and close friends since childhood -- live in the same house, arranged by Hilly's parents, Carol & Dafydd Williams, so that their daughter could realize her dream of living with friends. From first love to heartbreak and from leaving college to finding a job, these housemates live life to the max, while also dealing with day-to-day interactions, struggling with the complications of sharing a house together, and even competing in the Special Olympics. Through it all, they support each other during major changes in their lives, including a parents' divorce and finally an engagement. This series was originally produced as short form, 10-minute webisodes in England. THE SPECIALS, executive produced by Rosie O'Donnell and GAME OF THRONES' D.B. Weiss, made its television debut in the United States when OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network aired 13 half-hour, newly adapted episodes from 2:30-9pm ET/PT on Sunday, September 7, 2014.
