Plot Synopsis

Captain James T. Kirk leads the USS Enterprise as he, First Officer Mr. Spock, Chief Medical Officer Leonard McCoy, and the starship's crew seek out new civilizations on other planets in the 23rd century. At the beginning of each episode, Capt. Kirk's voice-over gives the best overview of the show: "Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before." Despite almost being canceled multiple times and only airing three seasons, "Star Trek" proved to be an iconic TV series. Not only did it push the boundaries of what TV was allowed to show viewers, it also tested common social and political beliefs. The series was truly timeless as it created a rabid audience that enjoyed five followup TV series -- "Star Trek: The Animated Series" (NBC, 1973); "Star Trek The Next Generation" (Syndication, 1987); "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (Syndication, 1993); "Star Trek: Voyager" (UPN, 1995); "Star Trek: Enterprise" (UPN, 2001) -- a web series ("Star Trek: New Voyages") and more than 10 theatrical films.
