Plot Synopsis

Vinny Buzzetta, a 21-year-old who still lives at home, runs his own Staten Island cake shop, creating some of the craziest cakes anyone can imagine -- all with the help of his family. Two years ago, after graduating from culinary school, Vinny opened The Cake Artist, his own specialty bakery, and learned that running a business was tougher than he expected. Now at the shop, he has the help of his family: mom Cammy, who keeps the peace when she's not instilling her own mother-knows-best advice; Kristin, his wise-cracking sister, who can't be near Vinny for more than 20 minutes without inciting an argument; cousin Joe, Vinny's mentor and his calming force; boyfriend Spiro, who is always around to lighten the mood with his humor or lend support; dad Rob, who is the family's voice of reason; and Grandpa Joe, affectionately referred to around town as "Crazy Joe," is the financier, he keeps a watchful eye on Vinny and is always around with an earful of business advice. Among Vinny's challenges: a brewmaster who requests a beer-flavored cake; a cake for the 1,000th performance of Broadway's Billy Elliot; a special celebration thong cake for Angelina Pivarnick of JERSEY SHORE; a pug-obsessed store owner who requests a cake featuring her dogs; and a cake honoring the 350th Anniversary of Staten Island.
