Plot Synopsis

In THE STORY OF US, host and executive producer Morgan Freeman takes viewers on a global journey to meet with people from all cultures whose lives are shaped in surprising ways by different fundamental forces, while exploring themes that unite us all. At a time when global events seem to be driving cultures apart, this series aims to uncover the fundamental forces that keep our societies together, and to reveal the common humanity that lies inside each one of us. Each of the six hourlong episodes explores a single fundamental force or topic, including love, belief, power, war and peace, rebellion and freedom.

On Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT, National Geographic Channel premieres "The Spirit of Rebellion," the season finale of THE STORY OF US. In this episode, also known as "The Rebel Spirit," Morgan meets exiles, whistleblowers, and hackers to see what it takes to change the world. In addition to many others, Morgan interviews Patrisse Cullors, one of the founders of the Black Lives Matter movement, whose brother was abused at the hands of the police, starting her on the road to fighting for social justice.
