Plot Synopsis

This series goes around the world to investigate our ancestors' most extreme rites and rituals. Instead of using re-enactments, the program uses a series of hand-drawn illustrations to show how and where these traditions first started. Each episode tells multiple stories related to a different taboo topic, such as the episode "Last Rites" which shows how people deal with death around the world in places like India, Indonesia and Mexico. Other topics include: altered states; cannibals; pain; sex; the apocalypse.
