Plot Synopsis

"Stranger Among Bears" follows bear whisperer Charlie Vandergraw and cameraman Richard Terry for six months in the Alaskan wild -- approximately 50 miles northwest of Anchorage. Charlie is a 70-year-old, retired high-school science teacher who spends his summers with wild bears in Alaska. For the last 20 years. Even though he's often compared to Timothy Treadwell of "Grizzly Man" fame, Charlie takes a different strategy interacting with black and grizzly bears. Charlie has his own cabin and his own space, and he claims that the bears respect his territory, while Timothy essentially invaded bear territory and put himself at risk. Despite this significant difference, the authorities view them the same way -- as a nuisance and a danger to the bear population -- since both Charlies and Timothy fed the bears. Will this be Charlie's last season among the bears?
