Plot Synopsis
STREET EATS travels around the globe, searching for authentic food that locals purchase from street vendors. Street food tends to be delicious, fast and inexpensive, while speaking to the culture of each city. In some countries, street food represents a melting pot of traditions; in others, it hasn't changed in generations and harkens back to deep cultural roots. In each 60-minute episode, this series explores street food in at least six cities within one region of the world, and each episode highlights a different geographic region, including Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the United States. Travel Channel aired a series sneak peek on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 10pm ET, showing the "Latin America" episode, which highlighted curbside cuisine, like these unique eats: shaved ice with tamarind juice on the beach in Cartagena; a taco made with fried gusanos, or tequila worms, at the San Juan Market in Mexico City; a smoothie with frog blended into it, which is sold as a healthy drink at markets in Lima, Peru; a classic beach lunch of fried fresh fish and rice at Kiosko el Bony, a popular food stand on the beach in Cartagena; ceviche made from white fish marinated in lime juice, which is one of Peru's most-loved dishes; and many more street eats unique to Latin culture.
