Plot Synopsis

From the creators of CHEF'S TABLE, STREET FOOD is a half-hour docuseries that explores the rich culture of street food in some of the world's most colorful cities. Season 1 explores nine countries across Asia, highlighting the stories of perseverance that bring each country's cuisine and culture to life. For some of the featured local legends, creating street food began as a necessity, but through generations of refining and honoring family traditions, it became their life-long passion to continue to uplift and bring joy to their communities. Street Food goes beyond the delicious food to document the blood, sweat and tears that goes into each iconic dish. From Jay-Fai who taught herself to cook after losing everything in a fire to 100-year old Mbah Lindu who hasn't changed her recipe since she started, each dish is as unique as the people who create them. Netflix released the entire first season of STREET FOOD on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT.

Season 1 celebrates the following cities:

- Bangkok, Thailand: Hear the inspirational story of street food chef Jay Fai, who puts a spin on tom yum soup and boasts a Michelin star for her crab omelets

- Osaka, Japan: Toyo is the humorous, fiery chef of a beloved izakaya in Osaka, the epicure's city known for popularizing street favorites from okonomiyaki to takoyaki

- Delhi, India: From the crispy savory chaat to the spiced chole bhature, these Delhi street flavors are deeply connected to family stories and political history.

- Yogyakarta, Indonesia: Among the sidewalk delicacies from gudeg to cassava noodles, the jajan pasar is the oldest. And one woman's recipe offers a window into the past.

- Chiayi, Taiwan: Tofu pudding. Fish head soup. Goat stew. The family-owned street stalls of Chiayi are bastions of Taiwan's culinary traditions.

- Seoul, South Korea: The food stalls at Gwangjang Market showcase some of South Korea's beloved old favorites, from soy-marinated crabs to knife-cut noodles.

- Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam: Snail and broken rice are staples of Ho Chi Minh City's outdoorsy street food culture, which has been shaped by both history and family memory.

- Singapore: Putu piring, wonton noodles, chili crab, chicken rice. Hawkers selling some of Singapore's favorite dishes offer a glimpse into their lives.

- Cebu, Philippines: Benefitting from the rich biodiversity of the land and sea, Florencio Escabas makes a reef eel soup held dear by the island city's many residents.
