Plot Synopsis
Executive produced by Greg Berlanti, SUPERMAN & LOIS is a one-hour drama series that picks up the story of The Man of Steel and Lois Lane after years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race. Now, the couple must come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever: dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan and Jordan could inherit their father's Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older. Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang, a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark's first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing. The adults aren't the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle's rebellious daughter, Sarah. Of course, there's never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois' father, General Samuel Lane, looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment's notice. Meanwhile, Superman and Lois' return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when a mysterious stranger enters their lives.
SUPERMAN & LOIS premiered on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 8-9:30pm ET/PT on The CW, immediately followed by a half-hour special, "Legacy of Hope" (9:30-10pm), which highlights sneak peeks and interviews from the cast of the new series, as well as featuring special guests who discuss the legacy of The Man of Steel. After a two-month break, SUPERMAN & LOIS returned with new episodes on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 9pm ET/PT on The CW. In the spring premiere, "Broken Trust," Clark reconsiders his decision to let Jordan play football. Meanwhile, Lois' continued investigation of Morgan Edge requires her to trust an unexpected ally.
The sophomore season of SUPERMAN & LOIS premiered on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. In the season opener, "What Lies Beneath," the dust is still settling in Smallville following the shocking outcome of the confrontation between Tal-Rho and Superman. Lois and Clark struggle as a couple while Chrissy (adjusts to running The Smallville Gazette with Lois. Jonathan faces new challenges on the football field, and secrets threaten to destroy Jordan and Sarah's growing relationship. Meanwhile, Kyle grows concerned over Lana's involvement with a new mayoral candidate. Lastly, John Henry Irons and his daughter Natalie attempt to make this new Earth their home.
SUPERMAN & LOIS returned for its third season on Monday, March 14, 2023 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. Season 3 opens weeks after Superman's blowout defeat of Ally Allston. Clark and Lois are now working at the Smallville Gazette together and enjoying small town life. But the Kents' romantic bliss only shines a light on how isolating "the secret" can be, as Chrissy struggles to balance a new love interest and her friendship with Lois. However, Lois' own work-life balance is put to the test when an undercover assignment reveals a deadly foe that promises to change the Kent family forever. Superman would move heaven and earth for his family, but with a villain this merciless, even that might not be enough. Meanwhile, the Kent boys find themselves being pulled in opposite directions as Jordan discovers what a superhero-identity really means and Jonathan searches for purpose beyond the football field. Amid all this upheaval, John Henry is haunted by his doppelganger's past, leading to dangerous consequences for him and Natalie. Lana Lang and Kyle redefine their family post-separation, while Sarah explores what the future holds for her and Jordan now that she knows the truth about his powers. Having learned the hard way that no one else can be trusted to work with Superman, General Samuel Lane reclaims his post at the Department of Defense, only to face his own conflict in working with his grandson, Jordan.
The fourth and final season of SUPERMAN & LOIS debuted with a two-hour premiere event on Monday, October 7, 2024 from 8-10pm ET/PT on The CW. Season 4 picks up right where last season left off: with Superman and Luthor's monster locked in a ferocious, moon-wrecking battle, as Clark fights for his life against the seemingly unstoppable creature. Back on the ground, General Lane struggles to stay alive after being kidnapped by Luthor's henchmen, while Lois, Jordan, and Jonathan race against time to rescue him. But standing in their way is Lex Luthor himself, who has permanently moved to Smallville as the next step in his malicious plan to destroy Lois Lane. Meanwhile, Lana Lang uses her position as Mayor to fight back against Luthor's schemes, a move which puts her in the sights of the most dangerous man in the world and threatens everything she holds dear. This includes her relationship with John Henry Irons, who must put his Ironworks plans on hold and rejoin the DOD, now that General Lane is missing. But they aren't the only duo in trouble, as Chrissy Beppo and Kyle Cushing face an uphill battle of their own, with countless roadblocks that threaten to ruin their future together. Amid all the chaos, Sarah Cortez and Natalie Ironsalso join the fight against Luthor, while both facing impossible decisions about their paths in life. And as Clark's battle with the terrifying monster continues, Lois, her boys, and the world must face an unthinkable possibility: what if Superman never returns?
