Plot Synopsis

Directed and executive produced by Nas and Peter J Scalettar, SUPREME TEAM is a three-part documentary that chronicles the Supreme Team, the notorious Queens, New York crime syndicate, and tells the real story directly from its two leaders, Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff and Gerald "Prince" Miller. Through the voices of these two infamous entrepreneurs and the syndicate's members, as well Hip Hop legend LL Cool J, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, journalist Joy Reid, singer Ashanti, producer Irv Gotti and others in the local community, politics, law enforcement, academia and popular culture, viewers are given access beyond the headlines to examine the broader cultural dynamics and the impact that this small group from South Jamaica Queens has held on hip hop and society at large. Prior to its July 10, 2022 debut on Showtime, SUPREME TEAM was screened during the Tribeca Festival on Sunday, June 19 at 5pm at OKX Theater at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) Tribeca Performing Arts Center (TPAC). The three episodes are:

"The Foundation" (Sunday, July 10, 2022): Before becoming leaders of the notorious Supreme Team, Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff and Gerald "Prince" Miller were young boys growing up in the thriving middle-class section of South Jamaica, Queens. But as New York took a turn in the '70s, a traumatic childhood experience with law enforcement and newfound role models would ultimately pave the way for the forming of the Supreme Team in the early '80s.

"War & Peace" (Sunday, July 17, 2022): The Supreme Team was on top of the world: heroes to the burgeoning hip hop community while making money hand over fist as the crack epidemic swept the country. But an NYPD officer's murder in South Jamaica got the attention of Mayor Giuliani and President Bush. The heavy hand of the law came down hard and fast on the Supreme Team and drug dealers not just in New York but across the country, changing the face of policing as we know it today.

"Truth & Consequences" (Sunday, July 24, 2022): An opportunity to rebrand himself as movie and music producer in the early 2000s gives Supreme a chance to go legit. While in prison, Prince is able to effectively reflect on his past choices, and plan for his future as a re-assessment of unjust crack sentencing provides a glimmer of hope for Prince's release from prison.
