Plot Synopsis

Inspired by Michelle Buteau's book of essays of the same name, SURVIVAL OF THE THICKEST is a half-hour dramedy series that centers on Mavis Beaumont. Black, plus-size and newly single (not by her choice!), Mavis unexpectedly finds herself having to rebuild her life as a struggling stylist. She's determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a body positive attitude, and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss. Eight episodes of SURVIVAL OF THE THICKEST's first season dropped on Thursday, July 13, 2023 on Netflix.

Season 2 of SURVIVAL OF THE THICKEST premiered on Thursday, March 27, 2025 on Netflix, which released all eight half-hour episodes of the new season. With her styling brand on the rise -- and her love life on the rocks -- Mavis takes ambitious risks to make waves in the world of high fashion. In the season opener, "When in Rome, Bitch!," a lovestruck Mavis is swept off her feet in a sexy Roman rendezvous. But unresolved decisions from the past may complicate her future with Luca.
