Plot Synopsis

Based on Stephanie Danler's novel of the same name, SWEETBITTER is a half-hour drama series that follows 22-year-old Tess who, shortly after arriving in New York City with no friends nor specific ambition, lands a job at a celebrated downtown restaurant. Having no experience, she's invited to train there, and attempts to keep up while observing her new co-workers. Swiftly introduced to the world of drugs, alcohol, love, lust, dive bars, and fine dining, she learns to navigate the chaotically alluring, yet punishing life she has stumbled upon. This is the story of a young woman's coming-of-age, set against the rich and grimy backdrop of exclusive restaurants, conjuring a nonstop and high-adrenaline world evoking the possibility, beauty, and fragility of being young and adrift.

Season 2 of SWEETBITTER premiered on Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 9-10pm ET/PT, as Starz debuted back-to-back new episodes. Tess has the job, and she's ready to invest in it. She's all in, but soon realizes she won't survive at the restaurant if she doesn't play the game. Tess finds her appetite awakened. She's starving for knowledge but investing in this life means more than knowing the difference between wine from Bordeaux and Burgundy. Tess discovers that knowledge alone is not enough: she needs to be able to use it, to move from her head to her body. She needs experience. Tess's appetite carries her through a sexual awakening, a discovery of her voice, and, ultimately, a recognition of her own power. However, not everyone shares this hunger. Simone, Jake and Howard are all trapped, by both the restaurant and each other, leaving Tess to question what she wants from the restaurant -- and what it wants from her.
Starz premiered the Season 2 finale of SWEETBITTER on Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 9-10pm ET/PT, debuting back-to-back new episodes:

"Peach Treats" (9pm): Tess and Jake take their relationship to the next level, causing tension with Simone. Ari feels abandoned. Will uses his power for a questionable purpose.

"Bodega Cat" (9:30pm): Tess learns the truth about Jake and Simone's past. She forms a plan to get everything she wants in the restaurant.
