Plot Synopsis

TIMELESS is a one-hour drama series that follows history professor Lucy Preston, who teams with scientist Rufus and soldier Wyatt to try and prevent master criminal Garcia Flynn from changing American history -- and possibly destroying the country -- after he steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine. The trio must use the machine's prototype to travel back in time to critical events. While they must make every effort not to affect the past themselves, they must also stay one step ahead of Flynn. But can this handpicked team uncover the mystery behind it all and end his destruction before it's too late? The series opens when the trio chase Flynn to the Hindenburg disaster of 1937. While there, Lucy, Wyatt and Rufus each have to draw on expertise to save the present and protect the past -- possibly at great personal cost. Then, in the next episode, the threesome trail Flynn to the night of Lincoln's assassination, where they're horrified to learn that Flynn's linked up with history's most notorious assassin, John Wilkes Booth. Putting aside a tragedy of her own, Lucy speculates that Flynn intends to send the fragile nation into chaos by making a bad thing worse, and a debate rages among the team: should they alter history if it means changing it for the better? The second season of TIMELESS premiered Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on NBC. Season 2 picks up right where the series left off with its heroes, as viewers continue to race throughout history with their beloved team -- Rufus, a scientist; Wyatt, a soldier; and Lucy, a history professor -- who are attempting to prevent the destruction of the world as we all know it. This season they'll find an unlikely ally in their quest to ruin Rittenhouse, a deadly organization with plans to change history and reshape reality -- even though Lucy's family has been a part of Rittenhouse for centuries. Still making every effort not to affect the past themselves, they will visit 1692, 1917, 1941, 1981 and more. Viewers will be introduced to the likes of Marie Curie, Hedy Lamarr, William Randolph Hearst and a multitude of other influential people throughout history. In the season opener, "The War to End All Wars," after barely escaping an explosion at Mason Industries, Wyatt and Rufus chase the Mothership back to a French battlefront during World War One to rescue Lucy from Rittenhouse. There, they discover that Lucy has recruited Marie Curie (guest star Kim Bubbs), the famous French scientist and the only person ever to win two Nobel Prizes, to help save the life of a wounded American soldier, only to learn that the soldier is Lucy's own great-grandfather who Rittenhouse is bringing to the present to be their leader.

On Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 8-10pm ET/PT, NBC premiered "The Miracle of Christmas," the two-hour TIMELESS holiday special series finale. As Christmas arrives in the Bunker, the Time Team is inspired by a visit from their future selves to find a way to try to save Rufus. But when the Mothership jumps to 1848 California, they're forced to put those plans on hold and chase Rittenhouse back to the Gold Rush, where they encounter one of the era's most dangerous villains. Then chasing the Mothership to Korea in the winter of 1950, our team helps a stranded, pregnant refugee attempt to escape a tragic fate. Stuck with no way out, our team faces its toughest challenge yet and, in the process, come to terms with their feelings for each other. Cast includes Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Visnjic, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit.

Co-creators Eric Kripke, Shawn Ryan and showrunner Arika Lisanne Mittman are promising fans "an epic, unforgettable thrill ride through the past, present and future, with a healthy dose of Christmas spirit."

"We're excited to tell one final chapter to this incredible story," said Lisa Katz, Co-President, Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment. "A huge thank you to all -- our cast, crew, producers and partners at Sony -- who have worked so very hard, and to the fans who kept us on our toes and made sure we did our very best week after week." "While we wish we could've made another dozen seasons of TIMELESS, this is the next best thing," said Ryan and Kripke. "We're thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?"
