Plot Synopsis

In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Titanic's voyage, TITANIC: BLOOD & STEEL tells the tale of building the legendary ship, as well as chronicling of the many lives it affected during its three-year construction. In Belfast in 1909, the Harland & Wolff shipyard was handed the greatest project in its history -- to build an unsinkable ship. With Ireland under British rule at the time -- and the Protestant and Catholic struggle intensifying -- Titanic was more than a was a symbol of ambition, hope and unity in a city split along class and religious lines. New York metallurgist Dr. Mark Muir stepped in to work on the biggest ship the world has ever seen: RMS Titanic. Mark was introduced to the Protestant elite who ran the city, but Mark was a man with a mysterious connection to the Catholic suburbs of Belfast. His affections were also divided between the charming, spoiled daughter of a magnate, Kitty Carlton, as well as a shipyard copyist, Sofia Silvestri. As Mark's real name and past began to be revealed, his father feared for Mark's future if his identity was to be discovered. Mark was shocked by news from his past life, which inspired him to embark on a secret quest. Who else will find out about his secret identity? Will the shipping magnates listed to his concerns and suggestions about the Titanic's hull? Will unrest at the shipyard cause unnecessary delays? Can Mark ever find -- and be with -- his true love? Encore aired the U.S. premiere of this program on Monday, October 8, 2012 at 8pm ET, showing two back-to-back episodes each night through Saturday, October 13, 2012.
