Plot Synopsis

TO CATCH A SMUGGLER is a docuseries that follows agents and officers with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, as they protect America from any criminal activity that could put the country at risk. Officers of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) work together to screen passengers, identify and question likely culprits, and arrest criminals after finding contraband and eliciting vital information. Drugs aren't the only thing these agents are looking for. Fruits, meats and other foreign produce, potentially carrying harmful pests and bacteria that could devastate the country's agricultural industry, are confiscated and destroyed, including nearly 25,000 seizures in 2011 alone. Officers in the mail room inspect nearly 700,000 packages a day for drugs, counterfeit money, exotic animals or worse. Nat Geo first aired this program as a 60-minute special on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 9pm ET.
A new season of TO CATCH A SMUGGLER premiered on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on National Geographic Channel. In the 75-minute season opener, "Smuggled and Muzzled," U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepts 36 kilos of cocaine concealed in a car's floor and stops a puppy smuggler.
