Plot Synopsis

Written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry, TOO CLOSE TO HOME is an drama series that tells the story of Anna, a young woman who escaped her working class upbringing in Alabama to discover unparalleled success in the fast-paced D.C. political circuit. When Anna leaves her trailer park home in a cloud of dust, she cuts all ties with her family and buries every element of her checkered past. Her friends in Washington think she comes from a wealthy family and know nothing of her real upbringing. But after making national headlines in a major political scandal involving one of the nation's most powerful players, her past is exposed and she is forced to return to her roots to face a past she thought she left behind. Seeking help and forgiveness from the same people she abandoned for a "better" life, Anna finds herself right back where she worked so hard to escape. Anna's new reality may prove too much for her to handle. Back in the ironically named town of Happy, Alabama, Anna reunites with her controlling mother, Jolene; her sweet yet overburdened sister, Bonnie; and her drug-addicted sister, Shelby. Although she's left behind a mess in D.C., there are serious problems brewing in Happy and Anna is quickly thrown into the drama. She also has to confront unfinished business with her high school sweetheart, Brody. Broken and battered, Anna must ultimately seek help and forgiveness from the same people she abandoned. TOO CLOSE TO HOME, TLC's first-ever scripted series, launched with a two-hour series opener on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 9-11pm ET/PT. Season 2 of TOO CLOSE TO HOME premiered on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on TLC. Eight new episodes of the drama continue to follow the story of Anna, a young woman whose life is turned upside down when her affair with the President of the United States is broadcast worldwide forcing her to return to her modest trailer park beginnings in Alabama. In the Season 1 finale, Anna returned to the small town she abandoned for a "better" life and sought sanctuary with the family she'd turned her back on years prior. Yet trouble seems to find her wherever she goes -- even in Happy, Alabama. Even her solid relationship with her sister Bonnie is threatened by her poor decisions. It's clear that Anna's shattered life in Washington is not behind her and hiding is hard to do when the most powerful people in the nation want to find you. Dax and Victor become entrenched in a scandal of their own and it is possible that Dax's loyalties aren't with Victor or Anna, but with someone truly sinister. Meanwhile, Rebel is getting into dangerously hot water when an all-too familiar face to Anna, Bonnie and Shelby returns to the town and has his sights set on Rebel. In the season opener, "The Mysterious Man," the quiet town of Happy, Alabama is abuzz after a catastrophic event.
