Plot Synopsis
After six rounds of fan voting and hundreds of millions of votes, Fuse counts down the 40 hottest videos of 2016 over two 60-minute episodes, premiering at 8 & 9pm ET/PT on Saturday, December 31. For the first round, Fuse selected 40 songs, and fans voted for their favorite song amongst 20 pairs. The 20 winning songs advanced to Round 2, where fans voted for their fave for each of 10 different song pairs. The 10 winning songs advanced to the third round, with five winners (Britney Spears, The Weeknd, Katy Perry, ZAYN, and CHVRCHES) being joined by three wildcards, one video from each prior round that was voted out with the largest vote total of any other axed video that round -- and in this case, the wildcard videos lost to Britney Spears in each round. Ariana Grande's "Side to Side" (losing in Round 1), Fifth Harmony's "Work from Home" (Round 2), and Lady Gaga's "Perfect Illusion" (Round 3) all returned as wildcards, rounding out the eight videos in the fourth round. Fans then votes for four Round 4 winners. In the penultimate round of voting (Round 5), fans selected Britney Spears' "Make Me" ft. G-Eazy (74%) over ZAYN's "PILLOWTALK" (26%) and CHVRCHES' "Bury It" ft. Hayley Willams (58%) over Ariana Grande's "Side to Side" ft. Nicki Minaj (42%) Fan voting continued in Round 6, a blind-vote round, during which online voters could no longer see how many votes each song/artist received; the winner, Britney Spears, was revealed shortly after the voting ended.
