Plot Synopsis

Each year since 2000, BMI has honored some of the greatest names in black gospel music. Held in conjunction with the STELLA AWARDS, the inaugural TRAILBLAZERS OF GOSPEL MUSIC was hosted by BMI Atlanta on January 8, 2000 from 1-4pm at Justin Restaurant, where songwriters and artists Kirk Franklin, Bobby Jones, Fred Hammond and Albertina Walker were honored. The event has been held annually since, and was first televised in 2016 on tape delay.

The 2016 BMI TRAILBLAZERS OF GOSPEL MUSIC AWARDS, hosted by gospel music legend Yolanda Adams, were held on January 16, 2016 at the Rialto Center for the Arts in Atlanta, GA, and were televised one month later on Sunday, February 21 from 7-9pm ET/PT on TV One. At the event, BMI saluted Mary Mary and gospel siblings duos BeBe & CeCe Winans and announced the Most Performed Gospel Song of the Year at the ceremony. BMI also recognized the Ten Most Performed Songs of the Year (2015).
