Plot Synopsis
Based on Kim Ryeo-ryeong's 2015 book of the same name, THE TRUNK is an eight-episode thriller that centers on a mysterious trunk that washes up on shore, threatening to unravel a web of secrets involving a discreet matchmaking service and one of its couples. Jeong-won is still heartbroken and bitter about his ex-wife, Seo-yeon, who's left him for another man. So when he meets In-ji, he wants absolutely nothing to do with her. Unfortunately for him, however, she's his new wife. When Jeong-won and Seo-yeon separated, Seo-yeon arranged new marriages for herself and Jeong-won through a secretive service that aims to help people covertly address their relationship troubles. Seo-yeon's plan is for both her and her ex-husband to live with their respective new spouses for one year -- until Jeong-won gets his act together and repents for what he's done to Seo-yeon. Then, they'll remarry each other. Except Seo-yeon is already pretty hot and heavy for her new, younger husband, and Jeong-won's a mess: He's depressed and struggling with insomnia, constantly popping sleeping pills and stumbling through life. As he slowly gets to know In-ji, however, despite his resentment toward both her and their arranged marriage, the two begin to uncover a conspiracy involving a mysterious trunk and the corporation that brought them together. All eight episodes of THE TRUNK dropped on Friday, November 29, 2024 on Netflix.
