Plot Synopsis

Created by Andy Wolton, TRYING is a half-hour comedy series that centers on Jason and Nikki, who want a baby -- but it's the one thing they just can't have. When they learn that around round of IVF would be too expensive and unlikely to succeed, they decide to adopt. With their dysfunctional friends, screwball families, and chaotic lives, will the adoption panel agree that they're ready to be parents? On Friday, May 1, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Apple TV+ released all eight episode of TRYING's first season.

In the eight-episode second season, Nikki and Jason are continuing to navigate the adoption process. Having been approved by the adoption panel, they now find that matching with a child is not as straightforward as they had hoped. It seems like children are being snapped up by other couples while somehow they're being left behind. Helped by their eccentric social worker Penny, they are determined to do everything they can. When Nikki meets a little girl called Princess at an adoption event, she knows instantly that this is the child for them. But there are obstacles to Nikki's plan that may prove insurmountable. Season 2's first three episodes dropped on Apple TV+ on Friday, May 21, 2021, with a new episode debuting each Friday thereafter through July 2.

Season 3 of TRYING debuted on Friday, July 22, 2022, as Apple TV+ released the first two episodes of the new season. The eight-episode third season picks up with Nikki and Jason waking up as new parents to two children they are still getting to know. Now they just have to keep hold of them, which proves to be trickier than they initially thought. Thrown straight into the parental deep-end, Nikki and Jason's relationships with each other and with their nearest and dearest are tested as they desperately try to navigate the ups and downs of parenting -- while hanging onto their kids, and their sanity. A new episode dropped each Friday through September 2.

On Friday, September 2, 2022, Apple TV+ released "The End of the Beginning," the Season 3 finale of TRYING. As Jason and Nikki prepare to find out if they can keep the kids forever, they make an impulsive decision that requires their family's help.

Two days earlier -- on Wednesday, August 31 -- Apple TV+ announced that it renewed TRYING for a fourth season.
