Plot Synopsis

Inspired by the 1995 film directed by Terry Gilliam, 12 MONKEYS follows the journey of Cole, a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future, who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day, Cole enlists the help of Dr. Cassandra Railly, who is forced to choose between her idyllic life or joining Cole's mission to uncover the dangerous conspiracy. Helping her make that decision is political strategist Aaron Marker, who tries to protect her but is pulled into the conspiracy to end the world. Plus, Ramse, Cole's best friend in the apocalyptic future, helped him survive the destruction and proves critical to the survival of the team as Cole travels through time. In the Season 1 finale, Cole and Railly attempt a final confrontation with their closest enemies, and Jones faces a new threat to all that she's accomplished. The 13-episode second season of 12 MONKEYS premiered on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Syfy, with Aaron Stanford (James Cole), Amanda Schull (Dr. Cassandra Railly), Kirk Acevedo (Ramse), Emily Hampshire (Jennifer Goines), Barbara Sukowa (Katarina Jones) and Todd Stashwick (Deacon) reprising their roles. Joining forces in the present with Dr. Railly, Cole must defeat a centuries-old malevolent organization known as the Army of the 12 Monkeys. As Cole, Railly and their unlikely allies get closer to the truth, they'll learn there are deadly consequences for all of history...and time itself. Guest stars this season include: Madeleine Stowe, star of the original TWELVE MONKEYS film, as Lillian, a mental patient in the 1950s who has a major impact on Cole's mission; Michael Hogan as Dr. David Eckland, a charismatic and intelligent scientist from the future with a connection to Jones; Brendan Coyle as Dr. Benjamin Kalman, a former bioengineer racked with guilt over the deadly virus his team gave birth to; Jay Karnes as a savvy FBI agent in the 1940s named Robert Gale, who believes Cole is connected to a series of grisly murders; David Dastmalchian as Kyle Slade, a Vietnam vet whose mind is connected to time itself; David Marciano as NYPD detective John Damato, who's pulled into the 1975 case of a serial killer affiliated with the Army of the 12 Monkeys; and Xander Berkeley, who returns as the tragic military leader Jonathan Foster who ran the Government's final hope to combat the plague that destroyed the world. In the season opener, "Year of the Monkey," Cole and Ramse mend their broken friendship while on the run from the Army of the 12 Monkeys. And in the year 2043, Railly and Jones navigate an uncertain future as Deacon and the Twelve command the Temporal Facility.
On Monday, July 18, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, Syfy premiered the Season 2 finale of 12 MONKEYS. In the season ender, "Memory of Tomorrow," as Cole and Railly try to find peace living in the past, they encounter a mysterious woman with apocalyptic visions of the future, who tells Cole that his work isn't done and he must do the unthinkable to save the world. Three weeks earlier -- on June 29 -- Syfy announced that it renewed 12 MONKEYS for a 10-episode third season.
