Plot Synopsis
Based on the comics and graphic novels created and written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Ba, THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY is a one-hour, live-action series that follows the estranged members of The Umbrella Academy, a dysfunctional family of superheroes -- The Monocle, Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumor, The Seance, Number Five, The Horror, and The White Violin -- as they reunite to work together to solve their eccentric father's mysterious death while coming apart at the seams due to their divergent personalities and abilities. Even as they uncover shocking family secrets, these estranged Hargreeves siblings must put aside their differences to stop a looming threat to humanity. The series opens with the estranged Hargreeves siblings coming together to mark their father's death, years after they rose to fame as young crime-fighting superheroes. After sharing the story of his time travel with Vanya, Five hunts for the owner of a fake eye. But two mysterious assassins are hot on his trail. Worried their mother is hiding something, Luther and Allison call a family meeting. Cha-Cha and Hazel catch a big break in their hunt for Five. On Friday, February 15, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released the 10-episode first season of THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY.
THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY returned for its 10-episode second season on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Netflix released all Season 2 episodes. Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya's 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right -- the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they're the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which -- spoiler alert! -- turns out is a result of the group's disruption of the timeline (deja vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins.
Season 3 of THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY debuted on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, as Netflix released the entire 10-episode new season. After putting a stop to 1963's doomsday, the Umbrella Academy return home to the present, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren't exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them. Enter the Sparrow Academy. Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone's concerns. Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own -- and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused) -- now all they need to do is convince Dad's new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong. Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?

The fourth and final season of THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY premiered on Thursday, August 8, 2024 on Netflix, which released all six episodes of the new season. Six years after the reset, the powerless Hargreeves clan faces a secret society and learns that the greatest threat to the universe... may be themselves. There's a new timeline dictated by the family patriarch, Reginald, and the siblings no longer have their powers. That's not the only oddity in this timeline, where the stakes are higher than ever before -- there are new enemies who want to see them wiped from existence, but how do they face their enemies without their powers?
