Plot Synopsis

Created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT is a half-hour, single-camera comedy series that centers on Kimmy Schmidt, a woman who escapes from a doomsday cult and starts life over in New York City, working as a nanny for socialite Jaqueline Voorhees. After 15 years of living in a cult, Kimmy is rescued along with four other woman, causing a national sensation that culminates with an appearance on the TODAY show. Before getting back on the bus to Durnsville, Indiana, however, Kimmy decides it's time to reclaim her life. Armed with just a backpack, light-up sneakers, a couple way-past-due library books and a big wad of rescue-fund cash, she's ready to take on New York City. She rents a room from Titus, a gay and talented Broadway-wannabe, who pays the bills by working as a robot in Times Square. Plus, she hangs out with Cyndee, her best friend from the cult, and Gretchen, the only one of the four rescued cult members who has been successfully brainwashed and believes everything she was told. In a May 11, 2014 press release for its upfront presentation, NBC announced that this series would premiere Midseason 2014-2015, but the network cancelled the series in November 2014. Soon after, the program was picked up by Netflix, which immediately ordered a second season and later released all 13 episodes of Season 1 on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT.

Season 2 of UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT premiered on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT on Netflix. The 13-episode second season picks up shortly after Season 1 and finds Kimmy looking for a new job, Titus forced to face his past with the appearance of his ex-wife and Jacqueline rediscovering her roots, while landlady Lillian finds a surprising romance.

Meanwhile, Titus needs a new job -- and maybe a new boyfriend. Plus, Jacqueline takes the next step with Russ, and Lillian runs for office. In the season opener, "Kimmy Gets Divorced?!," back in New York, Titus goes to great lengths to score an audition for SESAME STREET. Jacqueline encourages Kimmy to play hardball with the Reverend.

Netflix released the first six episodes of Season 4 on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT. Kimmy faces new challenges as the head of HR for tech startup Giztoob. Meanwhile, Jacqueline signs Titus to her fledgling talent agency, White Talent. The season opens with Titus pretending that he's starring in a TV show, hoping to win Mikey back.
