Plot Synopsis

During each hour-long episode of UNCOMMON GROUNDS, adventurer and entrepreneur Todd Carmichael explores the culture of each country through the lens of coffee in an effort to build his business and learn more about how coffee plays a critical role in society. From Paris to Lusaka and from Istanbul to Havana, Carmichael crisscrosses the globe to meet with influential personalities, chefs and experts, while combining tradition with inspiration to devise new products he can release to customers back home. In the series premiere, Carmichael introduces a revolutionary new device called The Dragon that could change the way coffee is brewed by aficionados around the world. When demand for the device skyrockets, Carmichael takes his invention to Japan in the hopes of finding a business partner that can reliably mass-produce his complex glass design. His mission takes him from the back streets of Tokyo to the rice fields of Okayama where he encounters everything from unconventional foods and nightlife to bullet trains and aikido.

On Monday, November 2, 2015 at 11pm ET/PT, Travel Channel premiered the season finale of UNCOMMON GROUNDS. In the season ender, "A Man, A Plan...Panama," Todd heads to Panama, one country that's so important to his business that he must go there every year. Boasting one of the fastest growing economies in the world, Panama also produces the most expensive coffees in the world. Todd's journey takes him through the transformed barrios of Panama City, to restaurants and cafes run by former gang members and trades punches with his childhood idol and former world champion boxer Roberto Duran. High in the mountain town of Boquete, Todd meets with a coffee genius who stands at the forefront of the industry and produces a bean that sells for an absurd 600 dollars a pound.
