Plot Synopsis

Guided by off-the-grid expert Jay Gruen, families tour unplugged properties in remote locations across America, while Jay provides useful tips on how to successfully live an unplugged lifestyle -- from harvesting their own food and tending to livestock, to generating their own power, to creating their own home goods. In each one-hour episode of UNPLUGGED NATION, one family visits three different properties, and, before they make their final decision, they test out this new lifestyle by living in one of the properties for three or four days. Featured families include: the Bastelli family from New Jersey, who want to move off grid in Hawaii, even though they have never lived outside the city before; and many more families looking to escape suburbia for an unplugged life in Washington, Oregon, and more.
Season 2 of UNPLUGGED NATION premiered on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on FYI. In the season opener, "Off Grid in Idaho," Sales manager, Peter, and his wife, Aubrey, a stay at home mom, from Pasco, Washington, want to create a different future for their two children. Pete's hectic work life is keeping him away from home and family and technology is invading the girls' lives. Both Pete and Aubrey want their children to grow up experiencing a childhood full of adventure, nature and practical skills. After viewing three properties in remote locations they have to decide which one they want to stay in for three days and test out. But after their time unplugged, will they decide to move the family off-the-grid or not?
