Plot Synopsis

Created and executive produced by Rob Lowe, John Owen Lowe, and Victor Fresco, UNSTABLE is a half-hour comedy series that centers on Ellis Dragon, a biotech genius, as he tries to bounce back from the depths of grief with help from his son, Jackson, who works to escape his dad's shadow and save the family business. Ellis is a universally admired, eccentric, narcissist-adjacent biotech entrepreneur working to make the world a better place. He's also in emotional free-fall after the death of his wife. His son, Jackson, is...none of those things. Jackson is more grounded and more of an introvert than his father, and he's has always had trouble living in the huge shadow that Ellis casts. At the Dragon company, Ellis' right-hand woman is Anna Bennet -- the company's smart, tough and formidable CFO -- who can go toe-to-toe with Ellis and has been (barely) keeping the company on the rails during her boss' emotional spiral. Ellis' project manager, Malcolm, is also a childhood friend of Jackson's. Malcolm used to be Ellis' assistant but has recently been promoted, and he adores Ellis so much that he's jealous that Jackson gets to be Ellis' son. One of the engineers at the Dragon company, Luna, works in one of the labs with her friend and research partner, Ruby. Shy, awkward, some would say weird, Luna is happy to let her more outgoing partner do the talking for the two of them. Ruby is also a biotech genius (let's just stipulate everyone who works here is a friggin' genius). Ruby is outgoing, accessible, and fun; the opposite of Luna. With everything that's happening,cCan Jackson save Ellis and his company -- and salvage their estranged relationship -- while also doing what may actually be impossible: escaping the shadow of his larger-than-life father? All eight episodes of UNSTABLE dropped on Thursday, March 30, 2023 on Netflix.
