Plot Synopsis
Based on Leo Tolstoy's enduring novel "War and Peace," this adaptaion is set upon the backdrop of Napoleon's 1812 invasion of Russia, WAR AND PEACE is a story of passion, romance, scandal and deceit surrounding the rising and falling fortunes of five aristocratic families -- the Bezukhovs, Bolkonskys, Drubetskoys, Kuragins and Rostovs -- in the waning days of imperial Russia. WAR AND PEACE's lead is Andrei Bolkonsky, a dashing and heroic young man who yearns for glory in war but finds only heartbreak and disillusionment that may, or may not, be cured by the lovely Natasha Rostov, who desperately needs to marry well to save her family from financial ruin. Meanwhile, the awkward, illegitimate son Pierre Bezukhov suddenly finds himself in possession of great wealth and, consequently, at the mercy of fortune hunters eager to take advantage of his naivete. A&E broadcast the U.S. premiere of this four-part series on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 9-11pm ET/PT, continuing on Mondays at 9pm in subsequent weeks, with simulcasts on Lifetime and History only for Parts 1 & 2.

On Monday, February 8, 2016 from 9-11pm ET/PT, Lifetime aired the fourth and final installment of WAR & PEACE. In the finale, Pierre gets a firsthand look at the war but proves to be largely useless on the battlefield. The battle with Napoleon is fierce and costly for the Russians, but Napoleon is forced to withdraw his army and regroup. Andrei suffers a great injury. Natasha opens up her home to the wounded soldiers as the Rostovs prepare to flee. Pierre is shackled and brought before a French general. In Mytishchi, the Rostovs take shelter at a cottage, and Natasha is unexpectedly reunited with Andrei. Unaware Pierre is held captive and can't answer her wishes to grant her an annulment, Helene cannot hide her pregnancy much longer. Denisov and Dolokhov rescue a band of prisoners, including Pierre, from the French. The harsh winter foils Napoleon, and Kutuzov victoriously chases the French out of Russia.
