Plot Synopsis

Don Short and his team at West End Architectural Salvage in Des Moines, Iowa redecorate homes using reclaimed architectural items that they repurpose into one-of-a-kind pieces that could pass for works of art. In each 30-minute episode, the team transforms a room for one homeowner, including: Lauren and Stu Steenhoek, whose boring suburban bedroom is converted into a one-of-a-kind space with a real sense of history, as West End Salvage uses old barn wood, a reclaimed pocket door and some old tin ceiling tiles; Mark and Amy Jungmann, whose blah basement gets a new focal point wall made from salvaged tin and is retrofitted with old oak tables to create a sleek media center; Dan and Shannon Winters, whose drab master bedroom is redone, using a new starburst ceiling treatment to create a one-of-a-kind rustic luxe style bedroom; Brett and Angie Williams, whose unused formal dining room is made into a swank lounge, as the team uses a copper cupola, some salvaged shutters and drawers off an vintage card catalog; Brandon and Sarah, whose L-shaped living room and adjacent dining room get updated with the use of a textured focal wall, decorative shoji screen room dividers out of salvaged doors, and new ambient lighting; Dan and Melody Massoth, whose long and narrow living room gets made over to a more inviting and functional space; and many more people whose rooms get redecorated with reclaimed items transformed into one-of-a-kind pieces. While they're helping homeowners, back at the company's 50,000-square foot shop, which is also a coffee bar by day and a bar by night, the guys often take part in friendly competitions or complete smaller projects for other customers, like creating memory vignettes for a nursing home franchise or a one-of-a-kind wine station for a charity auction. The WEST END SALVAGE team includes: proprietor Don Short; resident designer Hal Davis; buyer and designer Joe Davis; master builder Brian Fuchs; welder Bill Croft; and wood working guru/carpenter Rex Street.

WEST END SALVAGE returned for its second season on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on DIY Network, immediately following an all-day (3-9pm ET/PT) marathon of encore episodes from Season 1. In the Season 2 opener, "Building a Bar For an Out of State Football Fan," Don and the crew are approached by clients who recently relocated from nearby Nebraska. The wife is in the middle of giving her football loving husband the ultimate Corn Husker haven in their basement. They task the team with finishing off the space with a perfect bar. Inspired by their story, Don gets the Basement Boys to build a custom piece with two acutal vintage corn huskers as the foundation. Meanwhile, Don takes the difficult job of turning a heavy glove mold press into a lamp and pawns it off on Joe.
