Plot Synopsis

Detective Inspector Joseph Chandler and Detective Sergeant Miles are based in the Whitechapel section of London, with Ripperologist Edward Buchan as their historical advisor. In the two seasons, the trio investigated a woman's murder, which was similar to the Jack the Ripper killings in 1888 -- all while there was an emergence of a series of horrific attacks that appeared to echo the Kray twins infamous crimes of the 1960s. In Season 3, they have rescued a huge crime archive, a vast but chaotic collection of files and papers beneath the incident room. Buchan, an expert in the myths and legends behind unexplained or violent deaths, begins eagerly sorting this treasure trove of primary sources. Chandler, who was new to murder scenes when he was assigned the Jack the Ripper case, is now convinced crimes of the past hold the key to solving murders in the present, and it's not long before they have their first case - the race is on to find the killer. As part of its DRAMAVILLE programming block, BBC America aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 10pm ET. BBC America aired the first six episodes on consecutive weeks in the United States, even though ITV aired them as separate three-episode seasons in the UK.
