Plot Synopsis

Executive produced and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, this version of WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE features celebrity contestants playing for charity. And the stars can invite a guest in the hot seat to help them answer questions. It could be a relative, a beloved teacher or a famed trivia expert -- anyone they want -- to help them win as much money as they can for the charity of their choice. Additionally, this special run of shows introduces a live, play-along app which allows America to compete to win the same amount of money that celebrities are playing for on the show.

On Monday, April 6, 2020 at 10pm ET/PT, ABC premiered "Secrets and Surprises," a one-hour special that features a rare interview with former hosts Regis Philbin and Meredith Vieira, who both open up about their time at the show. The prime-time special also includes interviews with Michael Davies, the original executive producer, who explains what made MILLIONAIRE a hit and gives a tour of the new set as well as Jimmy Kimmel, who's slated to host a limited series of MILLIONAIRE. Kimmel shares what is new about his upcoming celebrity version and how stars donate their winnings to their favorite charity. The prime-time special also looks at some of the greatest winners of all time, how they've used their money and more

The series premiered two days later on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at 10pm on ABC. Celebrity contestants include: Eric Stonestreet (April 8, the night of the series finale of MODERN FAMILY), trying to win cash for Building Hope for Autism, with the support of MODERN FAMILY EP Danny Zuker; Will Forte (April 8 & 15), playing with his father, Reb, for The Pangea Network; Nikki Glaser (April 15), supporting Rescue the Birds with the help of Dr. Drew Pinsky; and more.

Season 2 of WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE premiered on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC, with Jimmy Kimmel returning as host. This season features both celebrity contestants playing for the charity of their choice and frontline heroes trying their hand at a $1 million prize. In addition to lifelines -- "Ask the Host," "50/50" and "Phone a Friend" -- contestants playing on MILLIONAIRE can invite an expert guest to help them answer questions. It could be a relative, a beloved teacher or a famed trivia expert -- anyone they want -- to help them win as much money as they can. The season opener features Tiffany Haddish and Firefighter Oliver Fry, with subsequent episodes putting these contestants in the hot seat: Julie Bowen, Joel McHale, Bus Driver Eric Bailey, and more. After a five-week break, WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE returned with new episodes on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. In the mid-season debut, Thomas Middleditch plays for the charity Climate Mobilization Project and nurse DeShae Alcorn takes her shot at the million-dollar prize.
