Plot Synopsis

Narrated by Colin Salmon, THE WILD SIDES is three-part documentary series that follows elephant, cheetah, leopard, jackal, and baboons living side-by-side in Mashatu in Botswana as their sagas collide. In this extreme landscape, all animal families' path cross, each one's plot is affected by the next, and everyone has their side of the story. The three episodes are:

"The Drought" (Premieres Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 8pm ET/PT on BBC America and earlier in the day on AMC+): It's the peak of a four-year drought in a wilderness in Botswana named Mashatu. Elephant, cheetah, leopard, jackal, and baboon families are forced to live side by side as their sagas collide. Families here don't live in isolation -- all their stories are connected, wins and losses swing in roundabouts.

"Flood and Foes" (Premieres Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 8pm ET/PT on BBC America and available one week earlier on Saturday, August 5 on AMC+): The drought couldn't last forever. As Mashatu's residents reach breaking point, the rains finally arrive. The landscape changes overnight and revived resilience abounds but what should be relief suddenly brings life-threatening situations. To compound everything, a new lion pride moves in.

"Growing Up" (Premieres Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 8pm ET/PT on BBC America and available two weeks earlier on Saturday, August 5 on AMC+): Mashatu is a lush Eden. There are babies everywhere and all parents are focused on teaching and feeding their young. It's a time of growth and abundance for all. But even paradise has its problems, the abundance attracts new enemies, and the lions are always nearby, watching for their opportunity.
