Plot Synopsis

Explorer Piers Gibbon travels around the world to discover the secrets of traditional and tribal medicine, investigating whether Western patients can be helped by the treatments of witch doctors. In each 60-minute episode, Gibbon takes a journey to a different country, including: Hong Kong, where two Americans are treated with snake blood; India, where treatments range from drinking cows urine to the painful practice of blood-letting; Cameroon, where two patients experience treatments ranging from chicken sacrifice to fire throwing; and Peru, where secrets of traditional shamanic medicine are unveiled in the Amazon Rainforest. Nat Geo aired all four episodes of this series at 10pm ET on consecutive nights of its EXPEDITION WEEK, starting on Monday, November 7, 2011.
