Plot Synopsis
WITNESS is a series of four documentaries from writer-director Michael Mann and acclaimed documentary director David Frankham, which follows a new generation of photojournalists into conflict zones around the world. Each episode features a photojournalist in a different part of the world, including: Juarez, Mexico, the murder capital of the world, where pro journalist Eros Hoagland, son of "Newsweek" photography John Hoagland, immerses himself in a culture where drug violence has left more than 10,000 dead and drugs are still flowing north; Libya, where following the revolution and the end of Gaddafi's rule, Michael Christopher Brown had previously survived a mortar strike that killed Tim Hetherington and Chris Hondros and is now documenting extreme moments of present-day chaos and reliving the loss of his friends and mentors; South Sudan, where French photojournalist Veronique de Viguerie travels with the Arrow Boys, an unpaid militia of farmers who took up arms to protect their families from the Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army; and Rio de Janeiro, host of the 2016 Summer Olympics, where Eros Hoagland captures a city that currently remains crippled by a war raging between police and powerful drug gangs -- with more than 2,000 Brazilian military taking to the streets.
