Plot Synopsis

Bill Weir and filmmaker Philip Bloom tell the stories of extraordinary people, places, cultures and creatures at a crossroads. In each one-hour episode, Weir and Bloom visit a different destination, including: Vanuatu; the Galapagos Islands; Ikaria, Greece; the Taj Mahal in India; the Alps; the Dead Sea; the Everglades and Venice. While immersing themselves in these locations, Bloom captures the locale's cinematography, while Weir explores the forces of change that effect so many lives, and discovers what can be done to save them. Season 2 of THE WONDER LIST premiered on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on CNN. In the new season, Weir continues his worldwide quest to uncover the untold stories of remarkable people, places, cultures, and creatures, at the crossroads of change. Across six hour-long episodes, he visits breathtaking locations, including the glaciers and fjords of Iceland, the Peruvian ruins of Machu Picchu, the Grand Canyon and Colorado River, stunning Botswana and Namibia in southern Africa, the secretive Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan and to Cuba as it undergoes dramatic transformation. Season 3 of THE WONDER LIST WITH BILL WEIR premiered on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on CNN, two weeks later than originally scheduled. Ten months earlier -- on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at 10pm -- CNN aired a sneak peek of the show's third season, as the cable network debuted a single episode, "Amsterdam: The Future of Freedom," early. In the sneak peek, Bill travels to Amsterdam, famed as one of the world's most liberal cities, to find out if the "bastion of tolerance" can stay that way amid a rising tide of intolerance. On his trip, Bill uncovers a different sentiment from Dutch politician Geert Wilders (aka the Dutch Donald Trump), who Weir says "goes against everything I thought the Dutch were about." Now, in the new season, Bill travels to Patagonia, Alaska, Madagascar, and more. In the season opener, "Patagonia: Paradise Bought," Bill is in Patagonia, where an American conservationist has purchased vast tracts of land to the fury of local developers. It's the story of how Doug Tompkins, a climber who could afford his own mountains, and Kristine McDivitt, a paddler who could buy her own rivers, fell in love, pooled their fortunes and bought 2 million acres worth of fjords, volcanoes, pumas and killer whales. Their mission? To protect the precious parts of the world that their fellow humans were not.
