Plot Synopsis
WONDER OF DOGS is a three-episode series takes a snapshot of the dog population of a typical English village -- Brightwell in Oxfordshire -- and examines the huge range of breeds in one single place. Hosts Kate Humble and Steve Leonard, together with leading experts, put the village dogs through a range of tests and explore why there's so much variety within a single species. And historian Ruth Goodman unearths the extraordinary stories behind some of the world's most iconic breeds. The 60-minute episodes include: "All Shapes & Sizes," which chronicles the anatomy of different breeds -- from huge dogs to tiny dogs, working dogs to lap dogs, dreadlocked dogs to hairless dogs; "A Dog for Every Job," which explores how dog breeds differ in their abilities and sensory perceptions -- and how humans harnessed these innate skills to develop today's hunting, herding and guard dog breeds; and "A Dog's Best Friend," which looks at the close bond that exists between humans and dogs, delving into the psychology behind the human-dog relationship. Nat Geo Wild aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT.
