Plot Synopsis

Hosted by Scott Evans (Seasons 3 & 4) and Jenna Dewan Tatum (Seasons 1 & 2), WORLD OF DANCE is a dance competition series where the winner receives a life-altering grand prize of $1 million, with these three judges: NE-YO, Derek Hough, and executive producer Jennifer Lopez. The series brings the world's elite dancers together to compete in epic battles of artistry, precision and athleticism. Solo artists will compete against duos and crews in an unlimited range of dance, including hip hop, krumping, popping, locking, tap, ballet, break dancing, ballroom, clogging, stomping and more. Handpicked from qualifying events around the nation and thousands of online submissions, competitors are divided into three divisions: Junior (any size act under 16 years old), Upper (groups of 1-4, over 16 years) and Team (groups of 5+, over 16 years). After an initial audition round, divisions face off in duels, until only one of each is left standing. A panel of experts score the acts using a precise point system developed by World of Dance, using the following criteria: Routine, Execution, Presentation, and Crowd Appeal. The finale sees the winners from each division duke it out for $1 million and the title "Best in the World."

NBC premiered Season 2 of WORLD OF DANCE on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 10-11pm ET/PT. Jennifer Lopez (who also serves as an executive producer), Derek Hough, NE-YO and host/mentor Jenna Dewan Tatum return for a new season. In "The Qualifiers Round 1," the world's most elite dance acts from all ages and dance genres enter the World of Dance arena to face off in the challenge of a lifetime. The acts have one chance to showcase their artistry, precision and athleticism in order to move forward in the competition and ultimately win a grand prize of $1 million dollars.

Season 3 of WORLD OF DANCE premiered on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 from 9-11pm ET/PT on NBC, with returning judges Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough, NE-YO and new host Scott Evans. In round one of "The Qualifiers," the competition is fiercer than ever before as the world's top dance acts from all ages and dance genres enter the "World of Dance" arena to face off in the challenge of a lifetime. The acts have one chance to showcase their artistry, precision and athleticism and new this season now must score an average of 85 in order to move forward in the competition and ultimately win a grand prize of $1 million. Five days later WORLD OF DANCE moves to its regular timeslot -- Sundays from 8-10pm -- beginning March 3.

NBC premiered the fourth season of WORLD OF DANCE on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 10pm ET/PT, with judges Jennifer Lopez (who also serves as an executive producer), Derek Hough and NE-YO and host Scott Evans all returning. The contestants are handpicked from qualifying events around the nation and thousands of worldwide online submissions. Competitors are divided into two divisions to start: Juniors (17 years old and under) and Uppers (18 years old and older). The competition consists of five rounds: the Qualifiers, Callbacks, the Duels, Semi-Finals and the World Final. In the first three rounds, dancers compete within their division, but in the Semi-Final and World Final, acts compete against each other for the $1 million grand prize. New for Season 4 -- only the acts that have both undeniable raw talent and determination will rise above the rest and earn their spot to perform on the WORLD OF DANCE stage. To begin the season, contestants now arrive at a warehouse under the impression that they're performing their final audition for a panel of producers. In a surprise twist, hopeful acts walk onto the dance floor to realize that the Qualifiers have already begun and the WORLD OF DANCE judges are there to determine if they have what it takes to make it to the next round. The judges each give a 'Yes' vote, a 'No' vote, or a 'Callback' vote. If placed in the Callbacks, acts have one last chance to perform and earn their spot in the next round. New this season for the Duels round, the judges choose which acts go head-to-head, creating epic dance battles leading to some of the most intense performances the series has ever seen. Acts won't know their opponent until they hit the dance floor, so the stakes have never been higher. Last season's popular Redemption round returns, but this year a special guest judge decides which acts up for elimination will go head-to-head to earn the final slot in the Semi-Finals and get their chance to perform on the WORLD OF DANCE stage.
