Plot Synopsis

Using first-hand accounts of veterans, archive film, reconstructions, and 3D graphics, WORLD WAR II'S GREATEST RAIDS is a one-hour series that chronicles the most important missions of World War II, revealing how elite bands of brave and highly trained soldiers carried out daring raids that changed the course of history. On land and sea and in the air, the scale of the conflict was unprecedented, but amid the great campaigns were many smaller-scale operations which were vital to Allied success. Whether it was foiling Hitler's attempts to acquire an atomic bomb or discovering the secrets of the air defenses of the Nazi Reich. Britain's Light Infantry, the British Royal Navy, the US Rangers, and the SAS changed the course of each battle -- and sometimes the entire war -- through their courage, daring and commitment. AHC: American Heroes Channel aired the U.S. premiere of this series at 10pm ET/PT on Labor Day 2014 (Monday, September 1, 2014), showing the "Hitler's Last Bridge" episode, which documents how a band of GIs captured Ludendorff Bridge, the final gateway into the heartland of the Third Reich.
