Plot Synopsis

Based on Henning Mankell's best-selling Kurt Wallander novels, YOUNG WALLANDER sees Kurt Wallander investigate his gripping first cases. Set in contemporary Sweden, the story focuses on the formative experiences -- professional and personal -- faced by Kurt as a recently graduated police officer in his early twenties. The series opens with rookie cop Kurt Wallander stumbling into a hate crime in his own neighborhood. As he hunts the killer, the incident fuels anti-immigration anger. Promoted to detective over his best friend, Reza, Kurt joins Hemberg on the case. Clues lead them to a notorious smuggler and a popular nightclub. On Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released the entire six-episode first season of YOUNG WALLANDER.

The entire six-episode second season of YOUNG WALLANDER dropped on Thursday, February 17, 2022 on Netflix. Subtitled "Killer's Shadow," this season finds Kurt Wallander adrift and uncertain of the future following his exit from the police force. An opportunity to re-join the Major Crimes Unit arises when a new Superintendent, Samuel Osei, takes on the leadership. Wallander accepts the offer and is tasked with what seems to be a straightforward case: a hit-and-run outside a nightclub. However, when the victim is found to be connected to an infamous murder case handled by Frida Rask eight years ago, Wallander quickly suspects that there is more to this incident than meets the eye. Determined to uncover the truth, he refuses to back off -- even when the investigation leads him to the door of those who could end his career in a heartbeat.
