Plot Synopsis

YUKON GOLD is a reality series that follows four, family-run, gold-mining companies, as they battle mechanical breakdowns, the elements, and 18-hour days under the midnight sun on their quest to strike it rich in Canada's wild Yukon. These crews have only four months each year to mine gold, and they keep coming back year after year, because it takes only one good strike to make it rich -- but one bad season can take a company down for good. The four companies featured in this series include: business partners and long-time friends Ken Foy and Guillaume Brodeur, who are entering their make-or-break season, as they're learning the hard way that striking it rich on the Klondike gold range is a lot tougher than it looks; 'Big Al' McGregor, a newbie to the Dawson gold fields, who spent his career supervising huge crews in the oil patch for corporate giants; Bernie Kreft, the self-proclaimed "world's greatest prospector," who works with a small crew, including his sons, Justin and Jarrett, to mine a claim for the second time after failing to cash in 10 years earlier; and Karl Knutson, with his dog Lenny by his side, who is trying to get out of the shadow of his father, Marty, a highly respected, self-made miner. Nat Geo aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 7pm ET/PT. On Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, Nat Geo aired the U.S. premiere of the second season of YUKON GOLD. In the season opener, "Behind the Eight Ball," late spring and plummeting gold prices push miners to battle frozen ground and sluice harder than ever. Karl races to get 100 ounces in the first week, defying his dad, Marty, in a bid to prove he's ready to take over the family mine and stake his own claim. Ken's operation is jeopardized when junior miner Matt destroys key gear, forcing the boss to decide if the eager but careless hand is worth the cost. Big Al's gamble to strip muddy ground to keep sluicing is a bust when he has to replace big iron without a big payday.

Nat Geo aired the Season 2 finale of YUKON GOLD on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT. In the season ender, "Know When to Run," the miners battle nature's wrath in an epic final push for gold. Ken's bid to pull a last 100 ounces before the ground freezes goes sideways when the mine nearly runs out of fuel, forcing him to shut down sluicing and fight his way up Moose Creek's treacherous road in a desperate bid to get to his reserve fuel at the top. Karl's race to mine Sulphur Creek is benched when one of his crew deals his prize sluice plant a near-fatal blow. Big Al follows his gut to high-stakes ground only to be shut out when his only stripping dozer goes down for the count.
