Plot Synopsis

Based on the novel of the same name, ZOO is a global thriller about a wave of violent animal attacks against humans. Jackson Oz is a young renegade American zoologist who spends his days running safaris in the wilds of Africa with his best friend Abraham, who has a deep understanding of wildlife. Shortly after the attacks begin, Oz sees a link between the strange animal attacks and his late father's controversial theories about impending threats to the human race. In Los Angeles, news reporter Jamie Campbell is intent on being the first to break the story behind the mysterious animal behavior, and seeks the expertise of Mitch Morgan, an off-kilter veterinarian, who prefers the company of animals over people. As the assaults occurring worldwide become more cunning, coordinated and ferocious, Oz and the others are thrust into the race to unlock the mystery of the pandemic before there's no place left for people to hide. ZOO returned for its second season with a special two-hour premiere on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 9-11pm ET/PT before moving to its regular Tuesday (9-10pm ET/PT) time period July 5. In Season 2, the danger escalates as the animal mutation moves to phase two, and they begin attacking infrastructure and creating deadly environmental phenomena in an effort to make the planet uninhabitable. Following the dramatic shift in violent animal behavior, the team attempts to rescue Jamie and the leopard whose DNA may hold the key to curing the animal crisis. Also, the team discovers a shocking mutation that threatens the life of one of their own. In its first season, ZOO was the most watched scripted summer series of 2015. Season 3 of ZOO premiered on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. As the third season opens, the year is 2027 -- ten years after the animals were cured but at the cost of sterilizing the human population -- and the world has reached a tipping point: as the human population continues to dwindle due to the sterility problem, an equally devastating threat rises in the form of "the hybrids," an army of unstoppable lab-made creatures, focused on destroying mankind. Although the team has become estranged over the past decade, they are forced to overcome their differences and reunite when they learn that Mitch may be alive. As the planet's future hangs in the balance, the team must race to stop the hybrids and their creator -- a shadowy figure with a startling connection to the team's past.
On Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT, CBS premiered "The Barrier," the Season 3 finale of ZOO. The team races to stop the hybrids from breaching the barrier wall by shutting down the last beacon that draws them in.
