Plot Synopsis
Based on the novel by Alex Haley and David Stevens. In 1912, a young black girl runs away from home and for the next 70 years faces hardship and discrimination. After her husband is murdered she labors as a maid in order to keep her family together. Her two very different sons struggle to come to terms with their mother's fierce love and a militant granddaughter learns valuable life lessons from the formidable matriarch.
