Plot Synopsis
Based on Neil Sheehan's Pulitzer Prize book. Lt. Col. John Paul Vann is sent to Vietnam in 1962 as a military advisor. He exposes falsified battle reports and various other deceptions to an American newspaperman. He believed he understood the enemy and knew how to win the war but his views get him in trouble with his superiors and he resigns from the army. He returns to Vietnam as the director of the Civilian Aid Program. He once again finds himself fighting corruption. He becomes a hero during the Tet offensive and made a general. He is killed in 1972 when his helicopter crashes in a storm.
