Plot Synopsis
Based on the book by Dr. Yvonne Thornton. For 35 years, ditchdigger Donald Thornton worked two jobs and his wife worked as a cleaning women to provide for their six daughters. Moving the family from Harlem to Long Branch, NJ., he single-handedly built a house for his brood so that his children could attend white schools. Instilling in his kids the value of education, all his girls overcame poverty and racism to become accomplished professionals.
