Plot Synopsis
Based on Dolly Parton's 1971 hit song "Coat of Many Colors." In 1955 nine-year-old Dolly lives with loving parents Robert and Avie Parton and her 9 brothers and sisters on a drought-stricken tobacco farm in Appalachia, Tennessee. The family makes do with little money and struggles to overcome a devastating tragedy, especially Dolly, who is shattered when her mother suffers a miscarriage. To help cheer up her daughter, she hands sews her a coat from a box of donated rags and tells her the bible story of Joseph and his Coat of Many Colors. Dolly can't wait to show her new prized possession to her schoolmates, but instead of acceptance she is met with jeers and taunts. With the healing power of love, faith, music and a raggedy patchwork coat, Dolly finds the strength that helped make her who she is today.
