Plot Synopsis

Inspired by the Time Magazine cover story, "The Toxic Tap" by Josh Sanburn. FLINT is the gripping retelling of a crisis that shook a nation and shines a light on the whistleblowers who exposed the biggest environmental scandal of our generation. In 2014, LeeAnne Walters, Melissa Mays, and Nayyirah Shariff join forces after discovering that the drinking water in their city of Flint, Michigan is contaminated, resulting in a slew of devastating medical problems for their families. When their claims go unheeded, they band together to expose the wrongdoings committed by their reckless, bean-counting government officials whose carelessness caused irrevocable harm to the lives of its residents. At a press event to promote the film, Melissa Mays (played by Marin Ireland in the film) said: "It is over a 1,000 days since we've had clean water in Flint, with no end in sight. There have been successes. We won a lawsuit to get half of the service lines replaced, but not the mains or interior plumbing. So one of the things we hope comes out of this is to let people know it's still not over. There are 200 people, that we know of, that have lost their lives, and we want to honor them by telling the story that even in a poor, broken, poisoned town, we banded together, and we fought. We fought, and we won. And we don't want anyone out there to think that, one, their water is perfectly safe because it's clear; and, two, that they can't stand up against a corrupt government or entity, and win. So we just want people to know that it was not experts that swooped in and saved us as we sat there and cried for help. We did it ourselves. We fought, and we are still fighting today."
