Plot Synopsis
Based on the book by Dava Sobel. In 1714 England, after a sea disaster caused by faulty navigation, Parliament offer a large prize for the first man to solve the problem of calculating longitude at sea. John Harrison a rural carpenter/clockmaker worked for 50 years to convince skeptical scientists and pompous bureaucrats that the dilemma should be fixed by a time-keeping device rather than stargazing. He ultimately builds a timepiece that could fit in a navigations hand.
