Plot Synopsis
Based on the play by David Feldshuh. In 1932 Tuskegee, Alabama, a federal health project began to monitor and treat syphilis among 500 poor African-American men. When funds dried up, the subjects were kept on, but the researches' objectives were modified to the study of untreated syphilis. For 40 years doctors withheld treatment as their patients deteriorated into madness. A caring nurse, knowing that assisting the doctors is morally wrong, hopes she can alleviate her patients' suffering within her circumscribed means.
